Most importantly, be sure to wear your retainer as often as our orthodontic experts recommend. In order to keep it safe, leave it in a case when you aren’t wearing it so it doesn’t get lost, damaged, or accidentally thrown away. Do not drink hot drinks while wearing it, and be aware of the temperature. Both extreme heat and cold can damage retainers—do not leave them outside in an Ohio winter or summer to prolong their lifespan. Just add one more step to your routine for a huge orthodontic and dental health payoff! If you are in a rush, rinse retainers in water to clean them quickly. On a daily basis, you should brush your retainers delicately with a non-whitening toothpaste and rinse when done.
