Clear Aligners near Lewis Center
Clear aligners have been popular for 25 years, and with good reason. Unlike braces, clear aligners, like Invisalign, provide straighter teeth and an ideal smile without long-term dental fixtures. Many choose Invisalign based on the visual appeal; by selecting clear aligners, the patient won’t have to deal with braces for nearly two years. Clear aligners and Invisalign are common options with adults, especially when working in a traditionally professional setting. Invisalign is a very straightforward process that allows patients to show off their smile throughout treatment. It gives patients the confidence to continue their lifestyle and not care about judgment from their peers.

How Invisalign and Clear Aligners Work
The main difference between braces and clear aligners is that aligners come in a clear plastic that is less noticeable than traditional brackets. Customers often seek out clear aligners and Invisalign to avoid having to wear braces for 18+ months.
Getting aligners begins with a consultation at our orthodontic office, just 10 minutes from Lewis Center, Ohio. During the evaluation of your teeth, we will take a 3D scan of your smile. If you are a good candidate for aligners and decide you want to begin treatment, we will begin creating your custom aligners. Throughout treatment, each aligner is based on the 3D scans of your teeth and is customized entirely for your oral care. Depending on your treatment, every 1-2 weeks, you will swap to the next stage of alignment. Each aligner is designed to move specific teeth slightly into a more straight position. We will perform checkups regularly to monitor the progress of your treatment and make sure your teeth are moving correctly. Checkups also give us information on whether we need to make adjustments to your treatment plan. As treatment comes to an end, we make a custom-fit retainer to keep their teeth from slowly regressing.
What Is Best: Braces, Invisalign, or Clear Aligners?
Braces are a more traditional treatment than clear aligners or Invisalign, and it has been used for many decades. Braces can be a better option for some patients, especially if they’re experiencing more severe complications. One of the main drawbacks people have with braces is how noticeable they are. Clear aligners are much less distinct, and others may fail to even notice them. Many have a personal stigma against having braces as an adult; however, many younger people are opting for clear aligners if they are a good candidate for a successful treatment. Being able to remove clear aligners and Invisalign means you can momentarily remove them for important occasions, like during wedding photos or job interviews.
Clear aligners and braces are similar in many ways. They are applying pressure to your teeth to move them slowly. A small misconception is that clear aligners don’t cause any pain like one may experience from braces; however, that is not true. While aligners do cause pain, it is usually only for a short time after swapping to a new aligner, and it’s easily managed. Clear aligners do this more inconspicuously and more easily fit different lifestyles. Another bonus is being able to remove the aligners during mealtimes, flossing, or dental hygiene. As long as patients are wearing their clear aligners 20-22 hours each day, they will see progress.
What Can Clear Aligners and Invisalign Fix?
There is sometimes a misconception that clear aligners and Invisalign can only be used for mild treatment. While there are some limitations to clear aligners, they can be used to fix many common issues with teeth. Clear aligners and Invisalign can fix crooked teeth, overbites and underbites, crossbites, gaps in teeth, crowded teeth, open bites, and more. Sometimes a tooth is too far rotated for aligners to work, but those are less common cases.
When patients are experiencing more extreme problems with their teeth, an orthodontist is more likely to suggest braces. Braces are less limited and can straighten teeth that are tilted further than 45 degrees. Sometimes the shape of a patient’s teeth isn’t ideal for aligners, so we would suggest braces. Any severe gaps between teeth, intrusions, or extrusions should be handled with braces. Sometimes, previous dental work removes clear aligners as an option. Dental bridges, crowns, and other dental work can prevent us from using aligners, leaving braces as the only option.
