How does Invisalign® work?

How does Invisalign® work?

Reposition teeth quickly, comfortably, and discreetly

Invisalign® straightens your teeth with a series of clear, plastic aligners that are specially molded to your teeth. During treatment, patients wear an aligner for about two weeks then switch to a new aligner that shifts the teeth to an even straighter position than the one before. With each visit to our Columbus office and with each new aligner, your teeth move closer and closer to your perfect smile. Treatment is fast, easy, and extremely discreet—your friends and family may not even notice your aligners! What they will notice is an exquisite smile that is uniquely yours.

For many adults, dentistry and orthodontic services can be intimidating. Perhaps you had braces as a kid but your teeth have moved, or maybe you are seeking orthodontic care for the first time. At Hutta & Hutta, we welcome many adult patients into our office. Whatever your story, Invisalign is an excellent option for achieving the sparkling smile of your dreams.

Innovative dental technology in Columbus

While dental procedures of the past relied on heavy hardware, like bulky braces and headgear, to straighten teeth, correct bites, and improve smiles, advancements in dentistry and orthodontics have greatly increased in simplicity and patient comfort. Invisalign treatment is the foremost example of these game-changing improvements in dentistry. Approved by the FDA in 1998, Invisalign is now a household name with a total patient tally of over 15 million and counting.

At our Columbus office, we only use the most advanced technology and are always in consultation with you, your dentist, and your dental records. This allows us to get a comprehensive picture of your teeth, bite, and jaw. We use 3D computer imaging technology to make your aligners—no goopy dental paste here! Aligners are made of a patented, medical-grade, clear and flexible plastic, which was created specifically for Invisalign treatment and the field of dentistry.

What to Expect During Treatment

What to Expect During Treatment

Starting treatment is simple. During your first appointment at our Columbus practice, our orthodontic and dentistry experts will review your health history, dental records, and goals. Be sure to share any concerns you or your dentist have about your dental health in addition to discussing your cosmetic desires for your smile. If you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, your orthodontist will explain the treatment, what you can expect as a patient, and your payment options. From there, your doctor will create your first aligner using our proven 3D computer imaging technology. And just like that, you’ll be one step closer to a smile you’ll love!

You’ll need to schedule appointments at our Columbus office approximately every two weeks while you undergo treatment. During these visits, our doctors will take new molds of your teeth and create new aligners to gently reposition your teeth. For the average patient, treatment lasts only 9-15 months, but you may start to notice results much sooner—even within a couple weeks. Whatever your treatment time, it’s vital that patients wear their aligners at least 20 hours a day for Invisalign treatment to be effective.

Because you won’t have to worry about the wires or brackets of braces, keeping your teeth clean while undergoing Invisalign treatment is easier than it is with braces. But, it’s no less important! Like braces, it is critical that you keep your aligner clear of any food residue. Residue isn’t only detrimental to your dental health—it can also stain your aligner. It’s important to brush your teeth and thoroughly clean your aligner after each meal to ensure proper dental hygiene and a clear smile during treatment. Your orthodontist will always review dental hygiene, teeth cleaning recommendations, and other dentistry “dos and don’ts” during your Invisalign consultation and treatment—you’ll have all the information you need.

We take patient comfort seriously. While we make sure that all our orthodontic treatments are as comfortable as possible, Invisalign is our most comfortable treatment option! Each aligner is created specifically for your smile and gradually shifts your teeth without the orthodontist needing to continually tighten any wires. The plastic aligners are also more comfortable for your gums than the metal of traditional braces.

The Benefits of Clear Aligners

Minimal lifestyle change, maximum results

Everyone wants a beautiful smile and for their treatment process to be as smooth, comfortable, and inconspicuous as possible. Invisalign is the clear answer. Because Invisalign aligners are clear, they are far less noticeable than braces, making your treatment virtually undetectable to others. From home to the office to out on the town, no one will know you’re straightening your teeth! And because the aligners are removable, you don’t need to worry about eliminating foods that pose a problem with traditional braces or about challenges with your oral care routines. Cleaning your removable aligners is simple and easy, meaning you can also clean and care for your teeth without interruption.

The benefits of a beautiful smile extend beyond the purely cosmetic. Ask anyone in the field of dentistry: straight teeth are easier to clean, leading to improved dental health overall. Given the strong connections that those in the fields of dentistry and medicine have established between dental and overall health — including heart health — straightening your teeth is one of the most impactful ways to increase wellness and improve your life. That said, the cosmetic benefits are not to be understated! As any current or past Invisalign patient will tell you: a beautiful, confident smile can make all the difference. Yours is just a click or call away.

Invisalign® FAQs

Is Invisalign right for my teen's dental needs?

Yes! Our Columbus practice is delighted to care for patients of all ages. We offer Teen Invisalign for young patients looking for a braces-free orthodontic treatment. Teen Invisalign works just like Invisalign for adults and has the same life-changing benefits. A young Invisalign patient can also expect to follow the same smooth, discreet Invisalign treatment process. The only difference is Teen Invisalign aligners sport a discreet blue dot so parents can check that their teen Invisalign patient is wearing their aligners.

Straightening your child’s teeth when they’re young can set them up for a lifetime of healthy dental habits and happy smiles. However, teens may be wary of getting braces—we get it! Even though braces technology has advanced tremendously, teens may still want to avoid getting braces as they go through this pivotal time in their lives. Clear aligners mean your teen can smile wide at prom and homecoming without anyone knowing about their Invisalign treatment. Plus, with Invisalign, your teen patient won’t have to worry about the strong, flexible plastic aligners breaking during sports practice or the big game. Invisalign is a tried-and-tested treatment method for straightening teeth, for you and for your teen.

How is Invisalign different than traditional braces?

Traditional braces have a reputation for being conspicuous and cumbersome, and rightfully so! The hardware of traditional braces can make regular teeth care tricky. Plus, braces require patients to avoid certain foods. Invisalign’s clear aligners are removable, so there’s no need to eliminate any of your favorite hard or crunchy foods during treatment. With Invisalign, maintaining clean teeth and optimal oral hygiene while undergoing treatment is a breeze. You won’t have to worry about working around the wires and brackets that come with traditional braces. Finally, Invisalign patients can expect to schedule fewer office appointments because we won’t have to continually adjust your wires and brackets.

How much does Invisalign cost?

For many considering Invisalign, cost can be a big question. The short answer is: it varies. As with anything custom-made, the exact cost for your Invisalign treatment will be specific to your dental and orthodontic needs. Invisalign is not a one-size-fits-all treatment process, and so the cost of services for each patient is dependent on the length of treatment and how much correction your teeth require.

At Hutta & Hutta, we believe orthodontics should be available to all. We are committed to providing care and services for patients across Ohio and to working with families to ensure their orthodontic treatment makes sense for their lives.
